Congratulations to Dong Dee, Paul, Mark, and Song for completing an intensive 5 week guide training course with CMRCA! After a final week of evaluations on everything from self-rescue to teaching a beginner how to tie a Figure 8 Follow Through, the boys celebrated with a day of climbing at Crazy Horse. They are now on their way back to Gota Island in the Philippines, where they will begin work as toprope climbing guides.
For a taste of what these guys have accomplished, check out these pictures from yesterday. Onsighting 6c after only climbing for 5 weeks... not bad, Paul! Stay tuned for an upcoming video of the guide training course. In the meantime, you can start planning a trip to Camsur Province.
Thanks for all your efforts, boys! Choke dii and Climb ON.

The Chiang Mai Climbing Community (C Cubed) looked better than ever on Saturday afternoon. After a spectacular kids' competition, the CMRCA bouldering wall was filled with clouds of chalk and resounding cheers as first-time climbers, lifetime climbers, and everyone in between rocked out at the second C Cubed CRANK! 25 exciting new routes set by CMRCA instructors Add, Ooan, Taw Noi, and Phi had every community member climbing as hard as they could. The event finished on a high note with a delicious feast and fun prizes provided by our sponsors, Flight of the Gibbon and Siam River Adventures.
Congratulations to Ultimate CRANKmasters Jens Glasgow and Amnuaypond Kidpromma (Nong) on winning the adult men's and women's categories!
The routes are still here, as is the amazingly positive vibe! Swing by CMRCA this week and continue to pull down. The next competition in the C Cubed CRANK! series will be in early November, right after Loi Krathong. See you there, and until then... Climb ON!

The second Chiang Mai Climbing Community CRANK! got off to a strong start on Saturday with the kids bouldering competition. Little climbers came from all over town to pull down on new routes. Spotted and coached by CMRCA instructors, these young athletes impressed everyone with their energy and enthusiasm! It was especially great to see kids from local orphanages enjoying the day and learning new skills. Chiang Mai has some terrific young climbers! For us, the great turnout means this is the time to launch our Climbing Kids sponsorship program.

Earlier this year, CMRCA team members Josh and Taw traveled to Camsur Province in The Phillipines to provide training, consulting, and bolting assistance in the development of a new sport climbing area on Gota Island. Read Josh's report from the expedition and see sweet photos here.
The routes on Gota Island's seaside limestone cliffs are now at the top of the industry standard, protected with titanium glue-in bolts and the best Hilti RE-500 glue. Governor L Ray Villafuerte is committing to developing Camsur Province as a model for safe and sustainable climbing-based tourism in Asia. So what's next? Providing local guides with comprehensive training in rock climbing safety and instruction.
This month, CMRCA has welcomed four Gota Island climbers for an intensive 35-day guide training program, led by our head instructor Taw.
