CMRCA Featured in Climbing Magazine's Special Green Issue!

February 22, 2010

CLM-283-cover-375

Be sure to pick up a copy of Climbing Magazine this month -- you'll see some familiar faces.  CMRCA and Crazy Horse Buttress are featured in the new March issue!

We are psyched to appear in the Special Green Issue of Climbing and hope that this publication will encourage environmental stewardship from climbers around the world.

"The Other Thailand: We all know Tonsai, Thailand’s killer but crowded beachside cragging. But move 450 miles north to Crazy Horse Buttress, outside Chiang Mai, and you’ll find a quiet, singular crag that’s redefining the eco-tourism model."

Lothar Mauch Comes to Movie Night

January 24, 2010

CMRCA had the great honor of hosting world-renowned mountaineer Lothar Mauch at a special screening of Au-Dela des Cimes (Beyond the Summits), a film celebrating the unmatched alpine climbing career of Catherine Destivelle.

Cut from 86 hours of helicopter footage from the summits of the French Alps, the movie was totally spectacular.  Lothar's words about what it was like to be in such a film were even more inspiring.

Detour of the Week: The Bo Sang Umbrella Festival

January 19, 2010

If you noticed an unusual blaze of color and noise on the San Khampeng Highway while driving to the crag this weekend, odds are it was the Bo Sang Umbrella Festival. This annual event celebrates the lovely parasols that are crafted by artisans in the handicraft village of Bo Sang, just 10 kilometers north of Chiang Mai.

The road that runs through the middle of the village is closed to traffic and filled with dazzling craft displays, succulent street food, traditional dance performances, and wandering visitors.  Lucky for us climbers, Bo Sang and its wonderful handicrafts are right on the way to Crazy Horse Buttress. Just another reason to love Northern Thailand!
