Climbing as Therapy with Whitney Boland

28 February, 2012

Whitney Boland has been on Sterling Rope for years, but climbing had a whole new meaning after she was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) 6 years ago.  Whitney has discovered that staying active and on the rock is a form of therapy for both her body and mind.  We’re excited to share this inspirational video from Sterling Rope.

CMRCA On The Cover

onthecoverHappy February!

We are exciting to announce that CMRCA and Crazy Horse Buttress are featured in SilverKris Magazine – the official magazine of Singapore Airlines.

Check out the beautiful cover shot inside Anxiety State Crisis Cave and write-up in the Out & About in Chiang Mai article (starting on page 70).

We’re definitely feeling the love after the recent NY Times article and feature in On The Rock episode.  Thank you to all the climbers and adventurers that make Crazy Horse Buttress such a sustainable, safe, and welcoming climbing destination.

Who says Adam Ondra can’t boulder?  Watch Black Diamond athlete Adam Ondra on his first trip to Fontainbleau.  Whether flashing 8a+ or falling from 6a+, Adam leaves us with a taste of the stunning sandstone in Fontainbleau.  Anyone feel like a bouldering trip?

Excuse the Mess…

2012 01_09_renovations_00260If you have visited the CMRCA in the last couple weeks you have noticed some big changes at the wall.  The floor is looking shiny and new with a fresh layer of concrete and we are building a brand new bathroom in the gym.

Over the next couple months we are completely renovating the adventure shop by removing the wall and bathroom currently behind the desk.  This will allow for more retail space to display our latest gear and a larger desk for customers to sign-up for courses and transport to the crag.

We are psyched about these improvements around the office and apologize for any inconvenience they may cause. We’ll keep everyone up to date as the project progresses!

A Fine Line

a fine line logoWe’re hosting the first CMRCA Movie Night of 2012 next Thursday, 19 January.  We’re excited to present A Fine Line – a film that follows one season with some of the world’s most visionary boulderers as they pursue the best – and worst – rock in America from Alpine Colorado to remote Idaho and the Deep South.  Featuring Jimmy Webb, Brion Boges, Dave Graham, Daniel Woods, Peter Beal, and other top climbers.  A Fine Line is a visual meditation on the bouldering life.

Admission has been discounted to THB 80 if you register on Eventbrite by noon on Thursday, January 19.  It will cost THB 100 at the door.

CMRCA In the Christmas Spirit

2011 12_23_christmas_fair_005The CMRCA staff spent the holiday weekend at Three King’s Monument shimmying people into harnesses, belaying, and handing out high-fives at the Promenada Christmas Fair & Charity.  The CMRCA mobile climbing wall was a huge hit and we’ve calculated that nearly 500 people got on the wall over the 4-day event.  We installed a bell at the top of the route and it could be heard throughout the festivities – even over many renditions of Here Comes Santa Claus and Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.

We were also able to set-up a CMRCA booth and display and sell some of our newest gear.  Thank you to everyone that came by!
