Movie Night: One Day On Earth

We’re excited to announce that CMRCA has been chosen as a global screening location for One Day On Earth – a documentary to premiere on Earth Day 2012 (April 22).  The One Day On Earth project produced the film in partnership with the United Nations, more than 60 non-profit organizations and a growing online community of over 19,000 filmmakers, both experienced and novice.  The community, including over 95 United Nations country offices, filmed in every country of the world, capturing both the joys and the struggles of everyday life.

Join us for an Earth Day Celebration and the FREE world premiere of this amazing film on Sunday, April 22, 20.00-22.00!  Please register for the event via the button below.  In an effort to minimize our impact on the environment we will be gathering information about how people will be traveling to CMRCA for the event.  We will be collecting donations at the door to go towards the ultimate goal of making this event carbon neutral (or as much as possible).

We would like to give a special Thank You to Kat and Jeff Kirk who applied to host this film on behalf of CMRCA.

Staff Train for Angkhang Descent

2012 03_24_cave_training_002745Last weekend, CMRCA staff ventured to Taktan Cave to experience “bad air” and train for upcoming caving adventures.  “Bad Air” is a heightened amount of carbon dioxide or low amount of oxygen that typically occurs in caves. Given the expansive karst environment of Northern Thailand, it was important for CMRCA staff to experience the physical effects, that include increased heart and breathing rate, dizziness, headaches and in some cases a loss of consciousness.

The training was part of the preparation for a caving expedition to Doi Angkhang.  CMRCA has been pushing the limit underground with exploration in this region since 2009. The goal of this expedition is to survey the existing cave system, find alternate entrances and discover linkages between other known cave systems and attempt to surpass the depths reached in past expeditions.  Do you think CMRCA has found the deepest explored cave in Thailand?  Stay tuned for updates.

Adventure Store Renovation Begins!

2012 03_20_office_renovations_002552All gear has been moved to the gym and construction crews have begun to tear down the wall at the back of the adventure store.  We are removing the wall and bathroom to allow for more space to display gear and have a larger registration desk to get customers in and out to the crag as quickly as possible.

We are psyched for these changes and appreciate everyone’s support and patience as these renovations are complete. The new and improved store is set to open around Songkran.  The retail store and climbing gym are OPEN for regular business hours.  Please enter CMRCA through the side (motorbike parking) entrance.

CMRCA Presents: The Eiger Sanction

CMRCA presents The Eiger Sanction at the CMRCA bouldering wall, Thursday, March 22, 20:00. Clint Eastwood stars in this classic 70s film that features stunning mountaineering cinematography and has been praised for it’s authenticity – especially related to climbing technique.

The movie is FREE and we highly recommend that everyone dresses in their best 70s attire.  We have transportation punch passes and t-shirts for the best costumes.

Please register on our Eventbrite page if you plan to attend:

Seeking Growth & Development Across Borders

2012 03_01_into_the_wild_dubai_002065Last week, CMRCA staff gathered to say farewell and celebrate the hard work of Guiding Intern Jiang Qing “Tina” Lin. Tina was the latest participant in CMRCA’s Guide Exchange Program with INSiGHT Adventures (formerly ChinaClimb) based in Yangshou, China.  Tina spent one month with us developing her climbing skills and serving as an Assistant Guide on climbing courses and student group programs.  See Tina in action below.

One of CMRCA’s Core Values is to seek growth. As a company that deeply values leadership development and cross-cultural facilitation, our partnership with INSiGHT has been a pivotal part of the professional development of CMRCA staff.  We believe that investing in our staff is the best way to invest in the greater community and provide high quality climbing and outdoor adventure services.

We have been exchanging guides with INSiGHT since 2008 and are excited to continue to grow this and other exchange programs with adventure providers around the globe.
