In April of 2002, Josh Morris and Khaetthaleeya Uppakham traveled to the United States on an international climbing and training expedition. During this expedition, Kat became the first northern Thai woman to actively seek training as a climbing guide in the United States.

She and Josh spent a number of days climbing with senior EXUM Utah guide Mike Kaserman. During those days, they discussed building anchors, placing traditional gear, rescue techniques, and guiding techniques that would be useful in the climbing environment in Thailand.

Similarly Josh Morris has participated in rescue courses as well as high-level training in the United States.
