| | | The small farming town of Mae On lies in the valley near Crazy Horse Buttress. The locals are some of the most friendly and welcoming people in Thailand. Get out early to take advantage of fresh food at the morning market or stop by one of the quaint roadside restaurants for a tasty lunch. | | | |  | | | Sankhampang Hot Springs 053 929 077 Moo 7 T. Ban Sahakorn A.Mae On Chiang Mai 50120 The hot springs is a great place to relax after a day of cranking at the crags. Entrance to the park is 15 baht per person. There are a number of opitions including private bungalows with piped hot spring water or group tubs. The many options are all very affordable ranging from 100 – 200 baht per hour. Thai traditional massage and foot massage is also available. Bungalows can be rented overnight ranging from 500 –800 baht depending on the season. Don’t miss out on making hard boiled eggs in the hot springs (a favorite past time for Thais). You can also get some Som Tum (papaya salad) and beer while your are soaking. To get there, continue on Highway 1317 past the turn off to Crazy Horse. The road to the hot springs is well marked with English signs. Roong Aroon Hot Springs Spa Resort 053 248 491, 053 248 475, 01 764 2350, 01 883 0337 Ging Amphur Mae On This is a nice resort that offers pretty much the same amenities as above, but with nicer facilities including a swimming pool and spa. Bungalows can also be rented for the night at 1500 Baht / night, however it is best to call and ask for the prices during the season in which you are traveling. To get there, follow the same directions as the Sankhampang Hot Springs, then follow the signs to Roong Aroon. Muang On Cave This cave is a pretty cool stop that only takes a few minutes to visit. A concrete staircase and electric lighting system allow you to descend comfortably into the cave where there are some cool formations and a plethora of Buddha images. Entrance to the cave is only 15 baht. There are a number of food stalls at the entrance where you can wet your appetite and quench your thirst. To get there, turn left just past Pornpit Restaurant about 500 meters past the turn off for Crazy Horse. Tad Moei Waterfall A very untouched waterfall located north of Crazy Horse Buttress. Turn right at the sign located 9.1 km past the turn off to Crazy Horse just past kilometer 36 on Highway 1317. Continue up the hill until you see the ranger station. Park your car at the ranger station. You have to walk about 800 meters from the car park but you are sure to see very few people here. Mae Gam Pong Waterfall This is a very beautiful rest spot about 20 kilometers north of the climbing area. Turn right when you see the sign for Kampong Lodge and John’s House at the 3 way intersection 10.1 km past the turn off to Crazy Horse (near kilometer 38 on Highway 1317). Continue straight at the next 3-way intersection and follow the signs to Kampong Lodge. The waterfall has a number of levels with a well-managed staircase that walks up the side. The weather is cooler and you pass through a very small village to get to the falls. You can arrange to have a home-stay in this village and get some insight into Northern Thai culture.
