Outdoor Top Rope Essentials

Take your first steps climbing outdoors while learning belaying, setting up anchors, and cleaning climbs.

Overview

Take your first steps climbing outdoors while learning belaying, setting up anchors, and cleaning climbs.

This full-day course teaches all the essential skills necessary to transition to outdoor top-rope climbing. Even if you are an experienced indoor climber, the jump outdoors can be intimidating. Despite this feeling, top rope climbing is one of the safest adventure activities if you are properly prepared.

Our AMGA-trained guides will teach you how to identify which crags are accessible for top rope, set up rope anchors without the need to lead climb, and retrieve all your gear safely at the end of the day. By the end of this course, you will be confident in the correct ways to safely climb on your own.
