Crazy Horse Road Gets Better – You Can Help

road maintenance_09If you’ve ever stopped by CMRCA to ask directions to Crazy Horse, you know how we love to tell folks that getting to the crag is a bit of an adventure.  There’s no obvious sign, no paved access road, no parking lot next to highway — and that’s just the way we like it.  Developing Crazy Horse as a model for sustainable climbing tourism in Asia means keeping the entrance under wraps and not disturbing the rural quirkiness of Mae On.

However, after a particularly heavy rainy season, the road is ready for some basic improvements.  Deep ruts and persistent erosion called for a long-term investment.  This week we hired some local construction muscle to widen the road and fill it in with gravel.  Today the project is nearly complete.

The cost of the new road is THB 100,000 and we are hoping to collect THB 30,000 from the climbing community.  If you would like to contribute, please donate at the CMRCA shop or via PayPal:

Thank you for helping us uphold our goal of making Crazy Horse the best crag in Asia and one of the best in the world!

We are confident that this new road will withstand many future rainy seasons and provide a safe — though still adventurous — way to access our favorite crag!  Climb on!
