Crazy Horse Update

The Office Of Sub District Administration has made an announcement regarding climbing at Crazy Horse Buttress. We are reposting the announcement and a translation here (the translation can be found at the bottom of this post).

We are working hard with various government agencies to assist in the new application process of the sub-district. The original post can be found HERE on the Facebook page of the Sub District Administration Office.  If you have any questions please email CrazyHorse@thailandclimbing.com.

While we wish there was better news we view this as progress toward the end goal of opening the crag. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Announcement of the Subdistrict Administration Organization of Ban Sahakorn

Subject: Suspension of access to climb at Crazy Horse Buttress

Crazy Horse Buttress is a well-known international climbing destination and training area for the Thai national climbing team. Climbing in the area has been suspended since 31 July, 2018 due to legal complications in applications from the local government to the provincial government for permission to access the area specifically for climbing. A new application for proper legal access to manage climbing and recreation at Crazy Horse Buttress has been submitted by the community of Ban Sahakorn and is currently in process according to municipal, district and provincial legal requirements.

In this regard, the Subdistrict Administration Organization of Ban Sahakorn must regretfully suspend access to the climbing area until this application is approved in order to avoid any disruptions in the formal application process that might ultimately affect access to Crazy Horse Buttress and stakeholders involved including, local villagers, local and travelling climbers, local businesses, and local and provincial governments and their officials.

Climbing of any kind in the Crazy Horse Buttress area is illegal while it is under investigation and the application for access is in process and violators will be considered to be breaking the law and risk being prosecuted. Once the new application is approved, the Subdistrict Administration Organization of Ban Sahakorn will make a further official announcement about reopening the Crazy Horse Buttress. At this time we are unfortunately not able to provide a timeline for this announcement.

We appreciate your support as we work together to reopen climbing in the future.

Yours Sincerely,

Boonchuay Wetchakit

President

The Office of Subdistrict Administration of Mae On
